Indigenous Scholars

Indigenous Scholars is an organization dedicated to “re-Indigenizing” education. We want to encourage our youth to pursue higher education and continue to ensure that our people are represented at the table. This idea stemmed from my personal experience as a first-generation college graduate. During the college application process, I knew nothing. I relied on Google and YouTube to teach myself and there were several times I was left scrambling because I was not adequately prepared for the process. It only got worse as I attended Georgetown University, a campus across the country, and it quickly became apparent that Native culture did not have a strong presence on campus. In a place that was so unfamiliar, I felt lost and had no idea where to turn. Both of these instances could have ended my college journey, but I was lucky enough to make it through. Now, Indigenous Scholars is here to make sure that no Indigenous student will have to feel the same way.
Education is the key to unlocking the potential within our Indigenous communities, paving the way for the next seven generations to thrive.
